designing my wedding looks
When it came to deciding what I wanted to wear as a bride, I knew I wanted to use materials that felt extra special and unique, and that had a story behind them. Applying my love for crafted, hand-touched designs, I created two dresses that I wore for my wedding day.
My first dress that I wore for the ceremony and dinner, I created using antique embroidered mesh panels from the early 1900s that I found online. I knew as soon as I saw the panels that these were something so unique and special, intricately hand-embroidered with a level of detail and craftmanship that I’d never seen before. The skirt panel was incredible…embroidered in an engineered, circular cut layout, so that when the skirt drapes, it cones beautifully at the hem. I then cut embroidery motifs from the other panels to applique around the waist and overlap onto the sheer side panels.
For my second dress, I wanted to create something that would be fun to dance and move around in. My mom was generous enough to gift me her wedding dress, which I used the skirt and train from to create a babydoll mini with an exaggerated tie in the back, paying homage to the big bow originally on her dress but in an updated, modern way.
